The National Youth Chamber Council of Nigeria (NYCCN) has advocated capital punishment for drug dealers and kidnappers.
National President of the council Bala Dawakin-Kudu made the call at the council’s inaugural meeting in Kaduna. He lamented that research document that over 95 per cent of crimes committed in the country were drug-influenced.
He advocated that Nigeria should join the league of countries where rape and kidnapping attract capital punishment, arguing that such will reduce insecurity and other vices in the country to the lowest level.
Dawakin-Kudu said his organisation, which is present in the 36 states, was formed to fight drug abuse, rape and child abuse.

He said: “We are worried that in January 2019, reports of a national drug survey showed that the number of drug users Nigeria, which is put at 14.3 million, is greater than the population of some European countries. This is without doubt why crime keeps increasing.
“We should address the problem from the root, which is why we are suggesting capital punishment for drug dealers.”
Dawakin-Kudu insisted that the law must no longer be lenient with rapists. He, therefore, called on the judiciary to intensify efforts at removing delays in prosecuting rape.
He, however, promised that the council will assist the government in its efforts to rid Nigeria of drug abuse, rape, child abuse and kidnapping.
