Ekiti Assembly put off activities

Ekiti House of Assembly on Thursday suspended its legislative activities indefinitely as parts of measure to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus diseases otherwise called COVID-19.

This is coming as the Ekiti state chapter Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools, ASUSS has called on the government to close down schools with immediate effect.

The decision to suspend legislative activities was reached at the Thursday’s plenary presided over by the Speaker, Mr Funminiyi Afuye.

The Ekiti State Government had on Wednesday said it recorded an incidence of a Nigerian male, 38 years old, of Ekiti origin, who has tested positive to Covid-19.

According to the Government, the confirmed case was suspected to have been infected while driving an American Caucasian, male, 27 years old, who was visiting Nigeria from Richmond, Virginia, USA in the company of his caregiver, a Nigerian female Age 31, of Ekiti origin.

The Chairman House Committee on Health, Mrs Teju Okunyiga had Under Matter of Urgent Public Importance, informed the House of a reported case of Covid-19 in the state.

Okunyiga then called for precautionary measures to contain the further spread of the diseases.
