The federal government has been commended over its understanding of the agitations of the Nigerian youths and maturity in handling the ongoing #EndSARS protest.
The Chairman, G.U.O. Motors, Chief Godwin Okeke gave the commendation on Tuesday in a chat with newsmen in Onitsha, Anambra State, praising the law enforcement agencies for managing the national protest without the use of coercion.
He however expressed concerns over the negative consequences of the protests if the youths’ demands were not met, pleading with them to allow the government and other stakeholders time to implement a greater number of their agitations.
He said, “I must salute the Federal Government for her understanding of the youth agitations. Also commendable is how the Federal Government and other law enforcement agencies have been managing the national protest without the use of coercive means.
“The youths should look towards the direction of self-reliance through innovations and entrepreneurship, as there are no white-collar jobs that would be sufficient for the teeming population of Nigeria.”

Okeke further advocated the setting up of a committee to oversee the recruitment and training of over 50,000 young graduates to various government parastatals targeted at addressing youth restiveness occasioned by unemployment.
“This committee will comprise the DSS, professors, the Police, and other relevant stakeholders. The training will arm them with the relevant skills they need for excellent performance on the job. This recruitment exercise will take place from January 2021 through March 2021.
“Additionally, 50% of the recruitment should be based on geographical spread, while the balance of 50% must be on merit. This way, we can engender youth involvement in the affairs of their nation and reduce unemployment.
“More so, there must be an improved welfare package of the Police Force. The gallant and fervent officers should be promoted as and when due, with the financial benefits accrued to them.”
