An entrepreneur, Emeka Eneanya, has commended the Federal Government and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for the decision to partially close the land borders as a way of checking insecurity and massive smuggling activities especially of rice taking place along the border routes.
He said that border closure will promote economic growth.
Speaking to traders during a visit to Onitsha Main Market, Anambra State, Eneanya , said the initiative by the NCS has demonstrated government’s desire to protect agricultural and industrial investments which have been adversely affected by smuggling.

He said Nigerian made products are of better quality compared to those imported and those that are not of the right quality should be corrected by The Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON). This, he added, would make it easy for everyone to support Made in Nigeria products.
He said that Aba, Onitsha and Kano International Markets are expected to hugely increase in their daily Business Operations.
“Our Economy presently has started feeling the effect. I cannot subscribe to a permanent closure of the land borders but it is highly recommended at this period to discourage smugglers.”
Eneanya said: “It is time to rebuild our nation”. Other traders, including Chief Victor Okechukwu have also called on government to establish fire service stations near markets for the security of businesses.
