Civil Servants in Enugu State have paid a ‘thank you visit’ to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for paying them the new minimum wage.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the government started the payment at the weekend.
The workers trekked about 10km from the secretariat to the Government House to register their appreciation.
Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Virginus Nwobodo said it was the first time the government was implementing a new wage structure without any industrial action by workers. He said workers were happy the government heeded to their yearnings.

On the noticeable disparities and inconsistencies in the salaries received, Nwobodo urged those who were underpaid to report to the council.
Ugwuanyi thanked the workers for their support, saying his mandate was to serve the people.
