FOR Taiwo Peter Fadile, 42, a native of Ondo State, the last five years leaves absolutely nothing to cheer.
The reason for this is not far to seek: A minor chest pain one fateful Tuesday morning, for which he was treated for malaria and typhoid would later metamorphose into something scary when he was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Complex, Ile-Ife in 2017.
To say that Fadile’s life literally took a wrong course ever since is stating the obvious as this ugly development which he has been managing since then has now transformed into Acute Chronic Kidney Disease otherwise known as End-Stage Renal Disease.
Speaking about his predicament in a chat with The Nation, Fadile, who said his life is hanging on a tiny thread, said: “I’m constantly in pains. To start with I was placed on thrice a week maintenance haemodialysis at the cost of four hundred and thirty-four thousand naira per month (N434,000). I was asked to look for the sum of twelve million naira (N12,000,000) by the consultant physician for a renal transplanting as the definitive treatment of my health condition.”
A holder of NCE from Adeyemi College of Education and a degree in History, Fadile, who said his family is already in debt on account of his illness, said, “I am constrained to seek for public assistance to help me undergo a successful surgery. No amount of help is too small. The renal disease has greatly affected my performance at my teaching job with the Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board. I will love to quickly return to my teaching assignment. I also need your prayers.”
