After what has widely been regarded as “best-ever” league in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) FA chairman Adam Mouktar Mohammed has said the focus will now shift to putting a proper structure in place for women’s football in the FCT.
“There’s no structure for women’s structure in the FCT, but we don’t want to adopt the ‘fire-brigade’ approach by rushing into a league,” Mouktar Mohammed said.
“Rather we want to start by getting the sport to the girls in the secondary schools and then stage an inter-school girls’ competition that will eventually lead to setting up a proper league.”
The FA boss also restated his commitment to ensure the provision of facilities for the sport across the FCT.
“That remains my number one objective,” he said. “We must look at this critically and see how we can partner private companies in this regard.”
Since the new FCT FA executive committee was elected last year, they have organised an U15 Inter-Area Council tournament from which the FCT now have a standing U15 team.
