SIR: Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Oyo State is one of the new polytechnics approved by the President Muhammed Buhari administration in 2019 or thereabout. Ayede is a sleepy town in Ogo-Oluwa Local Government, Oyo State. The joy of the people in the virtually neglected area knew no boundary when the approval was granted by President Buhari that at least their lots would be changed for better.
However, the joy is cut short because some stalwarts in Ogbomoso under the aegis of Ogbomoso Stakeholders Forum decided to move the school to Surulere Local Government against the decision of the Federal Government under the guise there are no facilities for the takeoff of the School at Ayede whereas a secondary school is there and Ajaawa, the headquarter of Ogo Oluwa local government with facilities is less than three kilometers to Ayede. A minister under the Buhari administration is said to have helped in rehabilitating a youth centre in Iresaapa, Surulere Local Government where the stakeholders located the school. The school is not meant to be a multi-campus institution.
The question bordering our mind at Ogo Oluwa Local Government is that can a few highly connected personalities change the decision of the federal government? Another question is, when will the school be relocated to the permanent site? Then, what will be the status of the temporary site when the school is not meant to be a multi-campus institution? As at the time of writing this, the rumour making the round is that appointments have been made in the school without an advertisement and the rumour went further that the so-called stakeholders donated some of those employed while the school authority supplied the rest. If this is true, is the school not taking off on a shaky ground?
The earlier the federal government clears the air on the location of the school, the better for the future of the school.
