Fintiri bans tricycles, motorcycles in Yola

Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has issued an Executive Order banning the use of tricycles and motorcycles at night around the state capital, Yola.

The ban affects users in the three metropolitan local government areas of Girei, Yola North and Yola South within the hours of 10:00 p.m to 5:00 a.m.

The information was contained in a statement by Press Secretary to Governor Fintiri Mr Humeashi Wonosikou yesterday.

The order, cited as “Adamawa State Restriction of Movement of Tricycles/Motorcycles Executive Order No.1 of 2021”, comes into effect yesterday until further notice, the statement indicated.

Governor Fintiri, who expressed concern over the activities of hoodlums disturbing the peace of the state, said government is determined to protect the lives and properties of innocent citizens.

Describing the activities of such miscreants as unacceptable, Fintiri said: “They have become an extraordinary threat to the peace, well-being, security and stability of the state’s political and economic systems, as well as a negative effect on continuous development, and must therefore be effectively curtailed.”

Anyone found guilty under the order is liable to a sentence of six months imprisonment with an option of N100, 000 fine or both, in addition to forfeiting the tricycle or motorcycle to the government.

Only those with compelling reasons, such as seeking medical attention, providing care and assistance to the vulnerable or travelling for purpose of work classified as essential service are exempted.

The police and other security agencies have been directed to arrest and prosecute any person found contravening this executive order.
