There was pandemonium Thursday as fire engulfed a section of the moribund Water Board facility located along Airport Road in Warri, Delta state.

The fire, it was gathered, started around noon time.

No casualty was recorded in the fire that reportedly lasted for about two hours.

The Nation learnt that the timely response of Fire Service men from the Nigerian Port Authority (NPA) helped to curtail the spread.

Witnesses claimed that the fire was caused as a result of negligence on the part of labourers who were hired to clear overgrown weeds in the facility area.

The fumes were said to have obstructed traffic along the very busy route.

According to a witness simply identified as Oghogho, the fire erupted from the burning of dry grasses.

“Some guys were employed to clear the bush around. I think they were burning what they had gathered and the fire went out of hand. It lasted for like two hours. The fire fighters came promptly, otherwise this place would have been a no-go area by no,” he said.

The level of damage could not be ascertained as at the time of filing this report.
