AYM Shafa Limited operating in the oil and gas industry has provided over N100 million in funds and materials to support the government in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The fund is in collaboration with the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and other players. The joint intervention initiative will assist the government in equipping isolation centres and providing ventilators, test kits, coveralls, medicines, ambulances and other essential medical supplies. It will also significantly enable the government to give the much-needed support to the poor and vulnerable in these difficult times.
Over 200 confirmed cases have been reported across the country, with most cases in the commercial city of Lagos and Abuja.
“Despite the rate of its spread, we can overcome this pandemic if we work together and support each other. We commend the work of the government in battling the pandemic,” said Yakubu Maishanu, chairman of the company.
AYM Shafa will continue to key-in into the collaborative initiative of the oil and gas industry and the NNPC to support the government’s efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. Maishanu further advised Nigerians to strictly adhere to precautionary and preventive guidelines – stay at home, social distancing, hand washing, and good hygiene – given by the government and medical experts.
AYM Limited, with outlets across the country and petroleum depot, has recently also carried out some Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes in some parts of the country including the one in Delta State where its petroleum depot is located at Warri.
In a related development, off-grid energy impact investing company, All On, seeded by Shell, has given N180 million in assistance to renewable energy companies, Auxano, Arnergy, GVE and Lumos to provide solar power for emergency health centres in support of the response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The four companies, all investees of All On, have been selected based on their immediate preparedness to respond with products, inventory, technical capabilities and their efficient delivery track record.
The company said that at times like these, the mission to accelerate the closing of the energy access gap by providing energy to underserved and unserved communities in Nigeria, is even more critical to ultimately saving lives. The COVID-19 Solar Relief (CSR) Fund will be made available immediately to the selected off-grid energy companies to provide solar power to emergency health facilities around Nigeria, through various private and social sector initiatives. The investees will tap into initiatives that support the national effort to alleviate the burden on the nation’s fragile health care sector in this time of crisis.
All On was established by Shell to contribute to addressing Nigeria’s access to energy gap through impact investing and the creation of an enabling environment for players in the off-grid sector to thrive. Through the COVID-19 Solar Relief (CSR) Fund, All On aims to contribute solar power solutions to aid in the containment and treatment of the virus.
