Firm donates school building to C’River community

A subsidiary of PZ-Wilmar, Eyop Industries Limited has handed over a newly built 3 classroom blocks and a 12 units teachers’ quarters to the management and principal of Government Secondary School, Aningeje, Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State.

The building, is one of the many projects executed across the host communities by Eyop Industries Ltd as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility.

Speaking at the occasion, the sustainability controller of Wilmar in Africa, Isaac Abban-Mensah, said that the company was committed to the growth of education in their host communities.

Abban-Mensah said that the most important asset of any company or community is its human resource and as such, it is important to contribute to its development.

According to him, Wilmar had other CSR programmes in its host communities which include infrastructural development, educational scholarships, healthcare, water and sanitation among many others.

“To ensure that we are building human capacity, it became necessary for us to invest in the education of the young ones.

“The structures alone do not guarantee good grades. In consultation with the teachers, we agreed to build a teachers’ quarters to retain high quality teachers to be based permanently in the school.

“This year, we are awarding over 40 scholarships to students across our host communities. This is because we have seen the need to promote and contribute our quota towards the growth of education in our host communities,” he said.

On his part, the CSR Manager of Eyop Industries, Paul Odey, urged the school management to protect the facility from vandals and theft.

Responding, Principal of the school, Dr Felix Edet, commended Eyop Industries for their kind intervention and for giving the school a face lift.

According to him, the school blocks and the teachers’ quarters will go a long way in promoting academic excellence in the school.

In his remarks, a traditional ruler from the community, HRH. Ededem Ita Archibong, lauded Eyop Industries for donating the school blocks and quarters to the school.
