In celebration of International Women’s Day (IWD), renowned businesswoman and philanthropist Folorunsho Alakija has urged the global community to accelerate progress toward gender equality.
Alakija emphasised that words alone are no longer sufficient and that collective action is necessary to drive meaningful change.
As the world acknowledges the strides made toward gender equity, it is clear that significant work remains to be done.
Alakija’s call to action stresses the importance of moving beyond rhetoric and taking concrete steps to address the disparities and inequalities faced by women globally.
To achieve true gender equity, Alakija, on Instagram, advocates for the removal of structural barriers that hinder women’s progress.
This includes breaking down glass ceilings that prevent women from reaching their full potential and creating opportunities for women in areas where they are underrepresented.

By working together, Alakija said, individuals, organisations, and governments can drive meaningful change and create a more equitable world for women everywhere.
Alakija wrote: “As we globally celebrate the strides achieved towards gender equity, it is evident that there is still so much more to do. Now, more than ever before is the time to move beyond words and to #accelerate action for women across the globe.
“It’s time to break many more glass ceilings, remove structural barriers and ensure that opportunities are created for women where they don’t currently exist!Together we can drive this change! #AFA #IWD #AccelerateAction”.
