About 1,000 widows and the elderly have been empowered in Anambra State by Prince Pascal Ezekwe Foundation.
The foundation distributed bags of rice, beans, cartons of sanitisers and over 5,000 tubers of yam to families in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government.
Media Officer Kachikwu Kachukwu said the founder, Paschal Ezekwe, was moved by the people’s suffering, especially widows and the elderly since the lockdown and decided to provide succour to families to lessen their agony.
Kachukwu urged the people to stay safe, adhere to washing of hands and social distancing to prevent outbreak of the virus.
A beneficiary, Mrs. Nkiru Okafor, said it was the first time some of them were receiving anything from such a group, except the little one from the government.
Mr. Adolphus Zikorah, a physically-challenged, noted that the foundation previously provided water to the community and scholarships to indigent pupils.
They promised to wash their hands regularly and maintain social distancing to staying safe.
