The police yesterday arraigned four men before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly manufacturing fake drugs in an illegal factory.
Emeka Madu, 47; Eze Young, 26; Chijoke Umunna, 19; and Kingsley Obilor, 22, were accused of manufacturing fake paracetamol and septrin tablets.
They are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, unlawful manufacturing of drugs and operation of illegal factory before Magistrate Yewande Aje-Afunwa.
Prosecutor Peter Nwangwu said the defendants committed the offence last December 13 at 2, Okunneye Street, Ikotun-Egbe, a Lagos suburb.
He alleged that the defendants conspired with others at large to commit the offence.
Nwangwu added that the defendants manufactured the fake paracetamol tablets and septrin tablets for public consumption.
He alleged that Madu, sometimes in 2014, unlawfully acquired two tablet machine producers, two blister machines and other equipment to operate the illegal factory.

The prosecutor said the factory was raided by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) last November 23 and the accused arrested.
The defendants pleaded not guilty.
Magistrate Aje-Afunwa granted them N1million bail with two sureties each in the like sum.
She said their relations must be among the sureties.
The sureties must be employed and show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government, she added.
The case continues on February 28.
