FUTO develops sexual harassment policy

THE Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) has developed the sexual harassment policy to check cases of abuses in the university.

Disclosing this on Tuesday, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Francis Eze, while briefing newsmen on the university pre- convocation ceremony in the Senate Chamber, said that the policy is before the governing council for approval.

He said the policy becomes necessary following the recent national outcry on cases of sexual harassment in the universities across the country.

“This document spells out what constitutes sexual harassment as well as appropriate sanctions for offenders.”

He said also that anti-plaguarism policy and university research policy have been developed and are awaiting approvals of the senate and council as to promote and maintain academic standards and protect intellectual work and property.

The VC disclosed further that the university would award first degree and higher degrees and diploma to 2,848 graduates on Saturday during the convocation rday.

Out of this, he said 294 would be for postgraduate degrees and diploma while 2,554 is for first degrees.
