LAGOS State All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Senator Muniru Muse is dead.

The eminent politician died on Tuesday at the Ahmadiya Hospital, Apapa, Lagos, during a brief illness. He was 80.

APC National Leader Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, House of Representatives Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and House of Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa have commiserated with the bereaved family.

They said he was very committed and dedicated to the development of not only his Apapa constituency, but also Lagos State and Nigeria.

Muse, a devout Muslim and an Apapa community leader, represented the defunct Action Congress (AC) at the Senate between 2007 and 2011. He succeeded Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, who had defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Lagos Central senatorial slot could have been filled by either Jimi Agbaje or former Deputy Governor Olufemi Pedro, who lost the governorship primary to Babatunde Fashola (SAN), former Chief of Staff to ex-Governor Bola Tinubu. However, Agbaje declined and defected to the Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA) to contest for governor.

Pedro defected to the Labour Party (LP) and later, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Before his foray into politics, Muse was a general manager at the Nigerian Ports Authority. It was there that he became an associate of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, who later became governor of Gongola State, and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, former Customs officer, who became the vice- president.
