Gov: No news about 30 passengers abducted in Niger

Twenty five days after 30 Passengers in three different vehicles were abducted by gunmen at Garun Gabas in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State, Niger State governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello said that the government had not heard anything about them.

According to him, the abductors are silent and the government is not aware if any of the families of the abductees have been contacted.

Speaking to newsmen in Minna over the weekend, Bello however said that a special tactical team from the office of the Inspector General of Police is investigating the abduction.

”We haven’t heard anything more with regards to that incident, but I know there is a special tactical team from the office of the Inspector General of Police, investigating the matter, “ he said.

It will be recalled that on the 20th of October 2021, gunmen abducted 30 passengers in three different vehicles at Garun Gabas in Rafi Local Government area of Niger State.

The gunmen were said to have barricaded the Zungeru-Garun Gabas Highway and stopped the vehicles who were unfortunate to have arrived while they were there.

The vehicles include an 18 seater bus and two other smaller vehicles.

The governor who commended the efforts of the security agencies in curbing insecurity in some parts of Niger State said that his government is ever willing to support the fight against banditry and kidnapping by providing equipment that will help the operations of the security agencies in the affected states.

He noted that the synergy amongst the security agencies have improved as they have been able to repel major attacks in Pandogari and environs recently.

“The security situation is not permanent as some times we get some relief and sometimes we get isolated attacks in the forest areas but the situation is calm in some emirates.

“Overall, we have not yet reached the comfort level, but I can assure you that the security agents are doing their best, they have stepped up their game. They are performing to our expectations”, he added.

Bello however noted that Shiroro, Munya and Rafi still have security issues due to the presence of Boko Haram elements while  assuring that his administration will continue to engage the security agencies to come up with better strategies to address insecurity.
