Gov Sani-Bello: no more bandit camp in Niger

Four months after raising the alarm over how bandits have taken over some towns in Niger, Governor Abubakar Sani Bello has declared that there are no more bandits camps in the State.

Speaking when he visited the Ma’undu community in Mariga local government, the Governor explained that the bandits usually come from neighbouring States to carry out their activities.

“There are no bandits camps in the State. The bandits usually come in from neighbouring States particularly Zamfara State to carry out their nefarious activities and go back. For now, there is are no bandit camps,” he said.

He stated that only joint operations among States affected by the acts of banditry will bring an end to the nefarious activities of bandits and kidnappers.

Bello said that the State Government will continue to put in efforts to ensure that affected communities like Ma’undu, which has diverse agricultural potentials are secured.

The Governor stated that his visit to Ma’undu community was to boost the morale of the over 300 security operatives, including vigilantes that liberated the community and assess damages inflicted on the community.

He commended the security operatives for their gallantry in pushing the bandits out of the community and promised continued support to the personnel, especially in the areas of logistics and welfare for optimum results.

“Your efforts will not go unnoticeable, I am glad I am here today to associate with you, to feel part of what u feel and see the difficulty in accessing the terrain,” he said.
