Lagos State Government has scored another first by coming out with an App to monitor the environment.

Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources Mr. Tunji Bello, at the unveiling of the App developed by a Hi-tech firm, Cotrust Limited, said it is their way to ensure a sustainable environment by dealing with issues of the environment holistically.

He said the application would simplify and transform the process if reporting and tackling complaint and infraction.

The commissioner, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the office of Environmental Services, Mrs. Belinda Adeneye,  said the application will be made available on Google Playstore and Apple ios store for immediate download.

In his remarks, Cotrust CEO, Ayodeji Faniran said the App cannot be used elsewhere except in Lagos to ensure that people don’t go elsewhere to take pictures of environmental infractions and credit it to the state. He also explained that all markets and local Governments have been configured as the App has a facility that registers time and location. On what can be reported, Faniran said anything that has to do with refuse, open culverts, construction left over’s and others. The idea according to him is to call the attention of government to issues concerning the environment.

On who can use it, he responded: “The App is very intuitive, everybody is getting better, it has minimum technology content and about 65 per cent of the state population can use. Sometime in the future we will consider having a Yoruba version, to ensure an inclusive responsibility to the environment”.

He said the idea is for everybody to have opportunity to contribute to the sustainability of the environment by bringing to the attention of government the areas that they should deal with in terms of what they expect as residents of the state. He also said that information received from the public will be used as data base and for planning purposes. The Hi¬ tech boss said the App will also be handy for estates and LandLords Associations to better communicate with government on their expectations in terms of the environment.

He advised Lagosians to download the App and help communicate what they want to have a beautiful environment that is first of its kind in Nigeria.
