The Executive Director of Human Development Initiatives (HDI), Mrs Olufunso Owasanoye, has urged the government to beef up security in schools, to stop kidnapping of students and teachers.
Owasanoye, speaking at a training in Ikeja, Lagos, organised by HDI, supported by Mac Arthur Foundation, said stakeholders in the education sector are expected to aid the government to provide security in schools.
She said the training was organised for retired headteachers, headteachers and members of the School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) from the six education districts in Lagos and representatives from the Ministry of Education, to contribute to the development of schools.

“The participants were also trained to monitor and track projects in schools, to ensure high quality and stop fraud,” the executive director added.
HDI Programme Officer Johnson Ibidapo said the organisation was concerned about the high population of out-of-school children, especially in the North.
He said this has resulted in high rate of crime, noting that “it is the responsibility of all of us to ensure that illiteracy is eradicated from our society, to reduce crime.”
A member of the SBMC, Mrs Adekunle Kemi Malomo, a retired headteacher, hailed HDI for organising the training.
