As a way of finding permanent solution to the current crisis rocking the Academic Staff Union of Research Institutions (ASURI), a group, the Reformed Academic Staff Union of Research Institutions (RASURI) has called for a reform of the union.

Speaking during a press conference in Lagos, the National Administrative Secretary of ASURI, Dr. Muhammed Mazier Akinwale, insisted that the body must follow due process in its conduct and activities.

He wondered why some members of the executive would prefer to sit-tight, despite several appeal to those concerned to follow due process.

“When union leaders perpetually plant themselves in positions of authority and never wanting to leave, is to say the least militarisation and autocratic stance,” he said.

The group accused Dr. T.C.N Ndubuaku of staying in office for more than 20 years as the National Secretary General of ASURI, arguing that the body should be reformed and administered as a true union reflecting the positive contributions of her members to the progress of the nation.

The group advised the government to look inward in choosing the next Director General of Federal Institute of Indusrial Research Oshodi (FIIRO), adding that it had approached the Industrial court on all issues bordering on breaches of the ASURI constitution.
