Members of the National Coordination of Global Network of Civil Society Organisations for Disaster Reduction (GNDR) have pledged to work towards reducing risk and increasing the resilience of the most vulnerable in the country.
The agreement was reached at its maiden meeting organised by the National Steering Committee in Nigeria. The meeting was attended by over 30 civil society organisations.
Peter Akanimoh (Global Relief), who represented West Africa at the Global Board of GNDR in United Kingdom, noted that GNDR is the largest international network of organisations committed to working together to improve the lives of people affected by disasters.
He emphasised the need for members to work together to ensure that the prevalence of disasters are reduced to the barest minimum. “The increase of disasters in Nigeria, Africa and the world should be tackled. If we do not monitor disasters, we will lose a lot, we should be alert and prepared,” he said.
Dr. Tola Winjobi (CSCSD) encouraged members to be more active and make meaningful impacts to reduce disasters in the country.
