Group raps anti-democratic forces, commends CCB, others

A civil society group, Transparency Centre Network, has raised alarm over the proliferation of civil society organizations in Nigeria.

The group alleged that some ‘political bandits and economic racketeers’, have thrown decorum and code of conduct of activism into the winds to pursue sponsored litigations and financial benefits to the detriment of credible Nigerians who have contributed immensely to the growth and development of fatherland.

Speaking to reporters in Abuja, the National Publicity Secretary of the group, Comrade Segun Jones said, in recent months there had been a calculated and premeditated campaign of blackmail against several past head of government parastatals by some faceless and disgruntled groups. “One could easily discover the motives behind some of the petitions written by some of these roadside groups to the Code of Conduct Bureau in particular, that they are not relevant to the constitutional mandate of the organization.”

According to him, “the content of these petitions were devoid of objectivity and neutrality bearing in the mind that the self styled groups described themselves as political movement.”

The group commended the leadership of Code of Conduct Bureau, under Danladi Umar, for their professionalism, forthrightness and praise their staff for digging deep before dragging names of eminent Nigerians in the mud.
