Gunmen attack: Nasarawa deputy governor wasn’t the target – CP Longe

The Nasarawa state Police commissioner, CP Bola Longe, has said that the state deputy governor, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, was not the target of the Tuesday night gunmen attack on his convoy which left three police officers and a civilian driver dead.

CP Longe made this known on Wednesday while briefing newsmen shortly after an emergency security meeting at the instance of the state governor, Engr Abdullahi Sule held at the Lafia government house.

He said government was disturbed by the incident and had mapped out strategic measures towards avoiding future occurrence and apprehending the culprits.

Longe said: “It was not that the deputy governor was the target of what happened. There was a robbery operation and the convoy of the deputy governor ran into them and that was what led to the death of five persons including four in the deputy governor’s security vehicle”.

The police boss assured that officers and men of the command have been mobilized to fish out the perpetrators and bring them to book and urged members of the public to go about their lawful business.

“We want to emphasis that the elements that carried out that attack would be fished out. We have started already and we will get there, we will deal with them decisively so that they will know that Nasarawa state is not a place for them to operate,” he emphasized.
