Following the decision by the Abuja Federal High Court 3 to affirm that Engr. Ibrahim Shehu-Gusau, remains the President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has vowed to appeal the judgement.

In a statement made available to NationSport by SY People who is the Director General of Gusau-led AFN, the court in a judgement delivered yesterday by Hon. Justice A. I. Chikere of the Federal High Court 3, Abuja Division, nullified the purported suspension and subsequent impeachment of Gusau as well as all other actions and resolutions taken by the Olamide George’s led AFN.

However, in a swift reaction to the judgement, through Danjuma Muhammad, Director Legal Services, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, the ministry described it as a declaratory judgment, which gives the ministry the right to appeal within 90 days.

“Though the judgment  demonstrates Gusau’s  declaration of autonomy of AFN, independent of Government is a non-issue. This civil matter has nothing to do with all the criminal allegations against Gusau before the various investigating agencies.  The Ministry will explore its rights of appeal within the statutory period allowed for appeal,” Muhammad said.

He added: “The implication for appeal since this is a declaratory judgment is that parties will maintain status quo Ante.”
