Hijab crisis

Rrelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria, His Eminence, Dr Samuel Emeka Uche, has urged the Christian schools in Kwara State to observe tolerance in dealing with the Hijab issue.

He spoke in Lagos during an induction ceremony for the Very Rev. Monday Evans Onyemara as the eighth General Secretary of the Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN).

Uche said: “I don’t think we should be so fastidious about Hijab. It borders on immaturity. We should be tolerant.

“I don’t think Christians did well to close their schools to girls who wear Hijab. They should allow them. Likewise, Christians who go to Muslim schools must not be forced to wear the Hijab.

“Christianity, Judaism and Islamic religions come from one father – Abraham or Ibrahim, and if we are children of one father, why must we quarrel? All we need is some measure of enlightenment.”

The clergy called for dialogue, adding that he was willing to be a part of the talks if invited.

Uche said insecurity can be addressed through job creation and youth empowerment.

The cleric said some criminals, such as bandits, may have been armed by politicians, who he said should “go back and call them to order to right their wrongs”.
