A High Court in Jos on Friday ordered that an accused police officer attached to the Military Special Tasks Force (STF) in Plateau be remanded in Jos Correctional Centre over alleged killing of a student of UNIJOS.
The Plateau State Government through its counsel, Chief Garba Pwul (SAN), arraigned Sgnt Ruiya Auta before Justice David Mann of High Court II, for alleged killing of Rinji Peter-Bala with an AK47 Rifle, an offence of culpable homicide punishable with death under Sections 189 of Penal Code Law of Plateau State 2017.

“The accused should be transferred from police custody to the Jos Correctional Centre, pending the determination of the suit,” the judge ordered.
Mann, however, adjourned the case to Nov. 24, for hearing.
Earlier, Pwul reminded the court of gruesome killing of the 20 year-old Rinji on May 12, 2020, which thrown the state into mourning.
“My Lord, since the accused has pleaded not guilty to the charge, he should be reminded in the Jos Correctional Center pending the determination of the substantive suit.
“We shall also applying for an adjournment to enable us prepare for the case proper as we have witnesses that will come and testify to the unjust murder of the young boy by the accused,” Pwul pleaded.
The Counsel to the defendant, Mr Francis Gbande, did not oppose the applications made by the prosecution counsel.
