Hoodlums hijack sharing of palliatives, plunder items in Ogun

Hoodlums on Monday hijacked the sharing of palliatives at the Itoro Headquarters of Ijebu – Ode Local Government Area of Ogun.

They sacked the Council officials, intended beneficiaries and plundered the items, including noodles and spaghetti.

The Nation learnt the hoodlums also seized the Council’s Transition Committee Chairman, Gbenga Olugbile and commandeered him to take them round the offices to ascertain there were no hidden palliatives anywhere.

It was learnt the Council got wind the hoodlums and urchins had concluded plans to loot the warehouse and quickly commenced distribution of the items.

But the hoodlums still invaded the venue and carted the items away.

An official of the council, who craved anonymity, told The Nation Olugbile and other officials were supervising the distribution when the hoodlums disrupted the process, overwhelmed the security personnel and carted the items away.

The same incident was recorded in Ifo and Sagamu Local Government Areas.

A resident of Sagamu and youth leader, Kayode  Okeowo, said some people came to the venue and turned it into a rowdy affairs, which paved way for the disruption.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident, described it as “hijacking” and not “looting.”

He added the security personnel on ground decided against making arrests to prevent “stampede”.
