House of Reps member Akinremi dies

•Makinde orders flag to fly at half mast

•Oyo APC: He brought relief to his people

Lawmaker representing Ibadan North Constituency of Oyo State in the House of Representatives, Musiliudeen Olaide Akinremi, is dead.

Akinremi, 51, is the third member to die since the House’ inauguration on June 13, 2023.

Popularly called ‘jagaban’, Akinremi was a two-term member of the House of Representatives.

He was said to have complained of mild ailment yesterday morning before he died.

Governor Seyi Makinde yesterday ordered that flags be flown at half-mast in his honour.

The governor described the death as shocking and a great loss to the state.

He also prayed for the repose of Akinremi’s soul and courage for the family to bear the loss.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo state described the news as a great loss to the party, Ibadanland and Nigeria.

A statement by the Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, reads: “Prince Akinremi’s demise is a death too many as he means so much to our great party even in death. It was him who redefined representation at the National Assembly to give relief and hope to the people of Ibadan North. He was the face of responsible and responsive leadership with many achievements in his record.

“The Isaac Omodewu-led State Executive Committee, members and supporters have lost a wonderful party man and a colourful politician who left an indelible footprints on the sands of time.

“The vacuum he left behind will be extremely difficult to fill but we find solace in the legacy of kindness, philanthropy and service to the people which he was able to implant on the surface of the earth.”
