    Tears as late Reps member Akinremi buried in Ibadan

    The remains of lawmaker representing Ibadan North federal constituency, Hon. Olaide Akinremi, was on Thursday, July 11, laid to rest amidst tears at his Ologuneru residence, Ibadan, the capital of Oyo state. 

    The burial rites were conducted by the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Sheikh Abdulganiy Agbotomokekere.

    Family, friends, political associates and mourners trooped out en mass to witness burial of the lawmaker.

    Dignitaries at the burial ceremony were Hon. Stanley Odidiomo, Hon. Abass Agboworin, APC Secetrary in the state, Alhaji Tajudeen Olanite, the Publicity Secetrary of APC in Oyo State, Olawale Sadare

    The deceased, died at Abuja in the early hours of Wednesday, July 10, after brief illness and was airlifted to Ibadan in early hours of Thursday. 

    Akinremi, an All Progressives Congress, (APC) lawmaker, was first elected in 2019 and reelected in 2023.

    Akinremi, 51, was representing Ibadan North federal constituency for the second term.

    Body of Oyo lawmaker Akinremi arrives Ibadan for burial

    The corpse of lawmaker representing Ibadan North Federal Constituency, Hon. Olaide Akinremi otherwise known as ‘Jagaban’, has arrived Ibadan, the Oyo State capital for burial.

    The burial of the lawmaker takes place at Temidire Estate, Tipper Garage, Ologuneru, Ibadan.

    He died in Abuja on Wednesday morning after brief illness.

    Akinremi, an All Progressives Congress, (APC) lawmaker, was elected in 2019 and reelected in 2023.

    Lawmaker representing Ibadan North Constituency of Oyo State in the House of Representatives, Musiliudeen Olaide Akinremi, is dead.

    Akinremi, 51, is the third member to die since the House’ inauguration on June 13, 2023.

    Popularly called ‘jagaban’, Akinremi was a two-term member of the House of Representatives.

    He was said to have complained of mild ailment yesterday morning before he died.

    Governor Seyi Makinde yesterday ordered that flags be flown at half-mast in his honour.

    The governor described the death as shocking and a great loss to the state.

    He also prayed for the repose of Akinremi’s soul and courage for the family to bear the loss.

    The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo state described the news as a great loss to the party, Ibadanland and Nigeria.

    A statement by the Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, reads: “Prince Akinremi’s demise is a death too many as he means so much to our great party even in death. It was him who redefined representation at the National Assembly to give relief and hope to the people of Ibadan North. He was the face of responsible and responsive leadership with many achievements in his record.

    “The Isaac Omodewu-led State Executive Committee, members and supporters have lost a wonderful party man and a colourful politician who left an indelible footprints on the sands of time.

    “The vacuum he left behind will be extremely difficult to fill but we find solace in the legacy of kindness, philanthropy and service to the people which he was able to implant on the surface of the earth.”

    Federal lawmaker, Akinremi to be airlifted, buried in Ibadan by 4pm

    The remains of late Hon. Olaide Akinremi, otherwise known as Jagaban, a House of Representatives member representing Ibadan North will be airlifted from Abuja to Ibadan for burial according to Muslim rites by 4 pm today.

    According to a close ally of the deceased, the remains of the lawmaker are already on the way to Ibadan and will be received at Ibadan airport.

    The Nation learnt that a colleague of the deceased, Hon. Abass Adigun Agboworin made provision for a chartered plan to convey the remains of the deceased to Ibadan.

    The deceased, who died in the early hours of today after a brief illness is slated to be buried at the Eternal Home Cemetery, Ibadan/Oyo road.

    Akinremi, an All Progressives Congress (APC) had initially been elected in 2019 and reelected in 2023.

    Akinremi, 51, was representing the Ibadan North federal constituency for the second term before he died in the early hours of today.
