Lagos State Commissioner for Housing Moruf Akinderu-Fatai yesterday hailed the House of Assembly’s Committee on Housing for summoning contractors handling the Sangotedo Housing Scheme in Eti-Osa.
The summon followed a joint inspection of the scheme by the committee and the ministry.
Committee Chairman Bisi Yusuf decried the delay in delivery of the scheme.
Yusuf lambasted some of the contractors for engaging in shoddy job.
“The need to reduce housing deficit is quite critical and any one serving as an obstacle should be brought to book,” he said.

The committee, he said, would support the ministry by sanctioning erring and recalcitrant contractors.
Yussuf warned contractors to perform or have their contracts revoked and be made to refund state funds.
The committee gave April 29 ultimatum to the contractors to deliver projects.
Sangotedo Housing Scheme began in 2013 and was proposed to deliver over 1,000 homes to Lagosians.
The present administration revisited the project with a determination to complete it before April.
Akinderu-Fatai hailed the stance of the committee.
“I am happy that the House committee is lending a helping hand in putting pressure on the contractors as many of them had become a clog in the wheel of progress,” he said.
He said several meetings were held with contractors to ensure compliance with standards and work plans.
According to him, site visits were conducted regularly to ascertain quantity and quality of work.
