Some people know him as Yomi Sars while others call him Guccimaneeko (Lagos Gucci Mane). But his real name is Abayomi Ekundayo.
The 30-year-old police officer has made the police force a colourful and exciting one. For the younger ones who always shun the police profession, Yomi Sars has given them a reason to embrace it as a career. He has demonstrated that you could be in uniform and still live your best life as well as spread happiness to people.
Despite being known for fighting crimes, he still finds time to do music and has made a name for himself in Nigeria. Even though most Nigerians don’t see policemen in a good light due to reported cases of alleged assault and extortion, Yomi Sars is treated specially. On stage, all he gets from people is love.
From his music, it is obvious that he was raised on the streets of Lagos and he doesn’t hide that fact too. He told Social Circuit, “I was attracted to the streets at an early age, leaving home to go find my path. I was born with a silver spoon but I left the comfort of my home to be on the streets. It was as if knew I would lose my mother early in life. I thank God for guiding my path on the streets and making me a better person.”
Yomi Sars shares a strong bond with fellow indigenous rapper, Olamide, and they have worked together on different cases. He is also a close ally of Pasuma, Reminisce, Wizkid, Phyno and Davido.
Some of his released songs are ‘Japa,’ ‘Adoyoyo,’ ‘Gucci Mane Eko,’ ‘No Case’ Ft Davido, Pasuma, DJ Jimmy Jatt, and ‘Follow Me’ Ft Olamide.
As a police officer, he works closely with Assistant Police Commissioner, Abba Kyari. He also sees him as his mentor.
