‘I didn’t mean to kill police officer’s son’

A minor, Progress Life, 13, who allegedly stabbed the 15-year-old son of a police sergeant, Marvellous Ekrake to death,  has said he did not mean to kill his friend.

He said his intention was only to threaten his friend.

Progress was arrested and taken to Ughelli police station by his family.

The Nation gathered that both friends lived with their parents as neighbours at a police barrack in Ughelli.

“I never meant to kill him,” the suspect said in a statement. “I only wanted to threaten him with the knife.

”After we completed a job for a woman, we were paid N300 and Marvellous decided to take N200. I said the money ought to be shared equally. He insisted, claiming that he would take the larger share because he was older.

“Later that evening, while he was playing with our toy, I collected it and threw it inside my father’s room, warning him that I’d stab him if he entered the room to take it.

“Marvellous went into my father’s room to collect the toy. I stabbed him and ran away, not knowing he would die.”a
