Immigration rescues four human trafficking victims in Jigawa

THE Nigerian Immigration Service in Jigawa State has rescued four female human trafficking victims, including an underage from Southern Nigeria, in Gurai a border village in Babaura local government of Jigawa State.

This was disclosed by the comptroller of the Jigawa command of the Nigerian Immigration service, Mr Isma’il Abba Aliyu, while parading a suspected agent and the four victims in Dutse, the state capital.

Aliyu said “the four victims rescued were from Akwa’Ibom, Lagos Ogun and Osun states”.

According to him “The victims (with ages ranging between 16 and 33) were rescued at Gurai village in Jigawa/Katsina border before onward to Tripoli in Libya by desert through Niger Republic”.

“Also arrested is one suspect accomplice, Mukhtari Zubairu,” he said.

The comptroller said the villagers had attempted to attack his personnel during the operations, adding that “the villagers’ action made us to not to rescue many of the victims and suspected agents.”

“Because we learned there are more than 26 victims and unspecified number of the agents when our men stormed the compound, but the villagers’ unpatriotic action gave them the means to escape.”

State commandant said they would be handed over to NAPTIP for further investigation.
