The Nigeria Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) has said Federal Government’s inconsistent policies is affecting the development of businesses.
National President Hajiya Saratu Aliyu spoke in Badagry, Lagos State, at a one-day capacity building workshop organised by the Badagry Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (BACCIMA).
The theme of the event was: “Badagry Division, Recharged, Ready for Business’’.
Aliyu said: “Today, the policy can say you can go with your two hands up. Tomorrow, you can go with one leg up, and at the end they ask you to raise two hands up and one leg up.
“As a businessman, if you fail to focus, these policies will weigh you down. Inconsistent policies will frustrate you.
“The government said you cannot import rice everybody knows there are rice farmers but are we serious.”
Represented by NACCIMA’s ex-officio Mr. Mike Akingbade, Aliyu, however, said the President Muhammadu Buhari administration would support entrepreneurs.
She said Nigerians should be dedicated and committed.
“If you are a yam farmer, it is no longer to produce and eat. Now, it is to produce, eat and sell not even in the country.
“Everybody has to wake up. If we do the economy will transform greatly,” Aliyu said.
Director of Studies at Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) Mr. Goodluck Audu said Badagry was a golden highway to economic freedom and development.
He urged investors to harness its opportunities.
Audu said Badagry was endowed with tourism potential, water bodies and agricultural produce, such as coconut.
A Lagos-based finance expert, Mrs. Comfort Aruosa, hoped the city would develop.
“Tourism will come up, industrialisation and funding will pursue Badagry.
“So when the money comes in, you may not be in a position to enjoy whatever the money brings if you do not prepare for it,” she said.
