As part of its activities to commemorate her 96th anniversary, Inner Wheel District 912 has donated cash, food and baby items to indigents in the society.
Members of the group were at General Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta, Ogun State, to welcome the first two babies of the day.
It was also an avenue for the group to reach out the two families with baby items as well as cash gift. Making the presentation to the two families, District Chairman, Inner Wheel District 912, DC 2019-2020, Olasumbo Osunbayo, congratulated the mothers of the new infants for safe deliveries and urged them to make the best use of the items and cash gifts towards the upkeep of the babies.
According to Osunbayo, “God has made us witness the 96th birthday of Inner Wheel and one of the best ways to celebrate is to reach out to the indigent in the society.”
Responding, father of one the new born babies, Mr. Joseph Adepoju, commended the group for its benevolence and kind gesture. On his part, the father of the second baby, Mr. Bayo Iyinola, appreciated Inner Wheel D912 and urged other well meaning Nigerians to emulate the group’s gesture.
Speaking on behalf of the medical team of the maternity unit of the hospital, Head of Unit (HoU), Oluwafunmilayo Laditan, appreciated the group for giving back to the needy in society to commemorate their anniversary. “This is a laudable initiative done by members of D12 and we want other philanthropists to emulate such. This is a centre where we take more than 100 deliveries every month,” said Laditan.
The group was also at Janet Bankole Memorial Orphanage, Kenta, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, to give out food items and cash to the home. While welcoming the group, the manager of the home, Mr. Oladipo Olamide, said the home caters for abandoned orphans and indigent children based on court order.
On her part, chairperson of the Inner Wheel Day Committee, Olufunke Shinaba, pointed out that Inner Wheel District 912 was commemorating its 96th anniversary by reaching out to the less-privileged in the society.
“We move round the world to serve the less-privileged and I urge everyone to imitate this because together we can make the world a better place through your generous donations. Always learn to give back to the society,” said Shinaba.
Other high points of the day were the launching of the first edition of D912 Newsletter for 2019/2020 by the chief launcher of the day, Rotarian Abdulfatai Gbadamosi, and welcoming of new members.
Inner Wheel District 912 comprises Inner Wheel Club of Matori, Isolo, Ikorodu, Opebi, Gowon Estate, Olumo, Owu, Agege, Oregun, among others.
