‘Islam, a religion of peace, development’

Islam has been described as a religion of peace and development.

Professor Moruf Okusanya of the Lagos Centre for Quran Memorization gave the description during a lecture entitled ‘The Quran: Manual for National Peace and Development’ at the Maulud/Seerat-ul Nabiyy celebration organized by the Muslim Community of Lagos State.

The occasion, which was held at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, was well attended by great names in Islam and students of many Arabic schools.

Professor Okusanya itemized the contributions of Islam and Arabic to knowledge, especially in the field of Mathematics, which are of great benefit to humanity today in many fields.

He emphasized the importance the religion attaches to peace and implored Muslims to cultivate the attitude of forgiveness as a means of bringing about peace in our society.

In his welcome address, the President of the Muslim Community of Lagos State, Professor Tajudeen G. O. Gbadamosi, appealed to Muslims to be more dedicated to their religion and expressed his gratitude to clerics, teachers, parents and children for gracing the occasion.

The event features a march past by Muslim students, Quranic competition and an address by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, among others.
