Kano CP gets award of excellence for community policing

FOR his hard work and dedication to ‘community policing’ and generally fighting crime and criminality in Kano State, the Commissioner of Police, Habu Sani, has been given an Award of Excellence by the Kannywood Distribution Network.

Officials of Kannywood who presented the award at the Kano Command Headquarters, promised to use the film industry to assist police take community policing to the grassroots.

Chairman, Kannywood Distribution Network, Sani Sule, said: “The award presented to the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Habu Sani, recognises him as an Icon of Societal Development, because of his immense contributions to Humanity, Societal Transformation and Youth Empowerments in Northern Nigeria.

“We will use our influence in the Kannywood Film Industry to promote community policing activities in the state.”

It will be recalled that the Police Command in Kano, under Sani’s watch, has recorded huge successes in its fight against criminal elements. The command’s latest achievement is the arrest of Aminu Farawa, the man who had locked up his son in a car garage for seven years without proper feeding and healthcare. The 30-year old victim was also rescued and taken to a hospital where he is being treated.

In the last three months, the command has arrested no fewer than 392 suspected armed robbers and kidnappers who used to terrorise Kano State and its environs.

Of the 392 suspects, 30 were armed robbers, 26 kidnappers and 312 thugs, known in the local parlance as ‘Yan Daba.’ 11 fraudsters, 15 drug dealers and 14 motor vehicle thieves were also among those arrested. They all confessed their crimes when Sani paraded them penultimate week.

Sani’s achievements also attracted a popular northern musician, Salisu Sani Dancakarai, who presented a large portrait of the police commissioner, in recognition of his “feat achieved in decimating criminal activities in the State.”

CP Sani was also commended by the Society for Family Health for his good works, while seeking his support in his fight against of domestic violence and rape.

Its team leader, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed indicated it readiness to “partner the police, to train officers assigned for the investigation of cases of domestic violence and handling of victims.”

A statement by the police spokesman, Abdullahi Haruna, said the award and commendations will spur the CP to achieve more.
