TO decongest the “overcrowded Almajiri schools in Kano State, the government has sent 1,595 pupils to their states.
The measure is part of the Governor Abdullahi Ganduje administration’s effort to ensure the sustained implementation of its Free and Compulsory Basic Primary and Secondary Education, designed to decongest Almajiri schools.
However, arrangements have been finalised for the official evacuation of Almajiri pupils to their states/local taken considering that since the closure of primary and secondary schools three weeks ago, the Almajiri seminaries have remained congested with pupils having no shelter and nowhere to go.
He said the measure, which was also adopted after due consultation, was in line with the government’s proactive measures to control the spread of the deadly virus in the state.
The commissioner said the government is in contact with governments for onward reunion with their families.
Already, preparations have been concluded for the handing over of 432 Almajiris to the Katsina State Government scheduled to take place today at the Kano/Katsina border.

A statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, said the measure is other states to see the successful evacuation of the Almajiris to their states of origin.
The states include Katsina, 432, Yobe, 63, Kaduna, 198, Jigawa, 663, Bauchi, 101, Zamfara, 01, Gombe, 09, Nassarawa, 10, Kano State, 117 and Niger Republic, 01. Garba said the exercise will be continuous until all the Almajiris are evacuated and sent to their states of origin.
He called on the public to observe the stay at home order and personal hygiene in order to be safe.
