The management of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) yesterday said it has metered over 40,000 customers under its phase zero-plan in the state.
A statement by the KEDCO Head, Corporate Communications, Ibrahim Sani Shawai, said additional 47,747 customers have been targeted to get meters before the end of this month.
“The phase has a target of 87, 747 meters to be installed and out of that over 40,000 have been metered and we hope to complete the phase by end of this month.
“The renewed effort towards metering all customers in our franchise is propelled by our desire to effectively serve them, while minimising, if not totally eliminating, all complaints related to estimated billing in our franchise.

“It is in line with this desire that we keep meeting with critical stakeholders like the vendors to ensure that all challenges slowing the metering programme in our franchise are removed for the benefit of everyone in Kano franchise,” Shawai said.
The KEDCO spokesman told reporters that the management is cautioning customers against rejecting meters or deliberately damaging their meters.
“Those found guilty of perpetrating the act (rejecting or damaging meters) will be sanctioned accordingly,” he warned.
KEDCO assured all those who are yet to be metered that it will soon get to them.
The electricity distribution company appealed to customers to be vigilant towards preventing attempts at sabotaging metering in their communities.
