Kidnappers demand N20m for Edo PDP chieftain

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, Ugbo Iyiriaro, has been kidnapped.

His abductors demanded N20 million to free him.

It was gathered from security sources on Wednesday in Benin, the state capital, that the kidnap happened between Ugo and Ugboko in Orhionmwon Local Government Area on Tuesday.

Iyiriaro left Benin to attend to an urgent matter in his Umoghunokhua hometown in Orhionmwon LGA, before running into the kidnappers, midway into the journey.

The PDP chieftain, who drove the car, intended to quickly return to Benin, but the gunmen immediately moved him into their den in the forest and called his relatives to demand the ransom, which had not been paid, at press time.

Police spokesman Bello Kontongs confirmed the incident.
