The 2020 Miss Igala Nigeria, Makolo Achenyo has inaugurated a sanitary pad bank in Ogane-Uge community in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.

Described as the first of its kind, the project is an initiative tailored at establishing sanitary pad banks in rural communities, where every girl-child can have access to them freely on monthly basis.

Achenyo, through a non-profit organisation, Aid for Her, inaugurated the pad bank last weekend.

She lamented over the “UNESCO findings where one out of every 10 girls in Africa, miss school during their menstrual periods and eventually drop out.”

“In Nigeria, the high costs of sanitary pads have made them inaccessible to poor girls. In some situations, girls face sexual abuse in their quest for money to buy sanitary pads.
