Scores of Kwara State Transport Corporation, also called Kwara Express, protested yesterday the alleged plan by the House of Assembly to repeal the edict establishing the corporation.
The workers stormed the premises of Harmony Holdings Limited on the Ibrahim Taiwo Road, Ilorin, the state capital.
Harmony Holdings Limited is the supervising company for the corporation.
The protesters dressed in the company’s uniforms.
They chanted solidarity songs, condemning the decision of the government to repeal the act establishing the corporation.
Last September, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed presented a Bill to the House of Assembly, seeking to repeal the edict.
The chairman of the workers’ union, Alhaji Ajao Jaji, led the protest.
He said the workers condemned the plan to repeal the act.
Jaji said the workers were at Harmony Holdings to seek its intercession.
The chairman recalled that the workers, last September, held a similar protest at the House of Assembly.
He added that the corporation wished to remain in state public service and condemned a move to repeal the act establishing the corporation.
Addressing reporters after holding a closed-door meeting with the protesters’ leaders, the Group Managing Director of Harmony Holdings, Tope Daramola, said the company was not among the stakeholders calling for the repeal of the act.
