Lagos inaugurates 10-man committee for cooperative college

LAGOS State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat has inaugurated the Governing Council for the Lagos State Cooperative College, Agege with a charge to the new board members to set a precedence of excellence.

He challenged the committee members who cut across different fields of endeavour to live up to the expectation of the responsibilities committed to their care.

The deputy governor,  at the event in his office at Alausa, appealed to them to be guided by the oath taken as well as their track records and reputable individuals, who have built a name for themselves in the society.

Hamzat, who bemoaned the ills of the nation, emphasised that if all keep to the oath sworn to at their inauguration, the nation would be better for all.

Describing the composition of the council as awesome, the deputy governor urged members of the governing council to justify the confidence reposed in them and ensure that the aim of setting up the college is supreme in their heart and achieved.

He said, “Because some people sat down and said we need this school, we need to achieve this. We must make sure we achieve it. If we achieve it, we have done well.”

Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives Dr. Lola Akande, in her address at the event, said the inauguration of the committee members demonstrates the sincerity of purpose of the Governor Sanwo-Olu-led administration.

She expressed confidence in the selection of the  members, assuring that the board members are  poised to lead the College into great heights of excellence in entrepreneurship and Cooperatives education.

She however, implored the Governing Council of the college to make use of global best practices in designing policies that would take the College to enviable heights thereby making it one of the best citadel of learning in the country.

In his welcome address at the event, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, Mr. Oladele Ajayi described the event as the culmination of the collective effort of the Lagos State Government and the Cooperative Movements; a journey, which began in 2012 with the establishment of the Cooperative College by Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, former Governor of Lagos State.

Chairman of the newly inaugurated board Mr. Oyebowale Raji promised to make use of the open door policy of the ministry, assuring that the committee members will not disappoint the state government, but will instead strive for means of making the college a cynosure of all eyes.

Other members are the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives Mrs. Balogun Sherifat Bolajoko, a representative of the State Ministry of Education, Mrs. Onakoya, Omolayo Taiwo, provost of the college, Mr. Ojomu AbdulRaufu Akorede, representative of Lagos State University, Prof Oguntola-Laguda Danoye, among others.
