The Lagos State Government has met with stakeholders on the execution of junction improvement of Ikeja Underpass and Ikorodu Roundabout, starting with the establishment of Right of Way.
Speaking at the meeting in Alausa, Ikeja, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako said the Transportation and Traffic Management as well as the Making Lagos a 21st Century Economy pillars of the T.H.E.M.E.S agenda could be achieved through massive investment in road infrastructure development and renewal.
Calling for the cooperation of residents for the establishment of the Right of Way and successful execution of projects, Salako noted that the process of establishing the Right of Way necessitated the removal of structures to pave way for the benefiting projects in public interest.

“Therefore, the junction improvement works, as in every development projects, will unavoidably make demands on our ability to accommodate growth by making needful compromise and removing impediments in the Right of Way of these desirable Projects.”
He assured that efforts would be geared towards the timely completion of the projects while impacts would be minimised as the removal of structures to pave way for the road, where necessary, would be a matter of necessity and subject to payment of compensation as applicable.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde explained that the projects were conceived as traffic management intervention to facilitate ease of movement and development of the two important local government areas.
He added that junction improvement in various parts of the state was part of strategies to respond to transportation requirements of state.
Stakeholders from the two local government areas, including the Chief Imam of Ikorodu, Shiek Oshoala and Prince Supo Ogunleye commended the government’s efforts for its infrastructural renewal and urged for leniency in establishing the Right of Way.
Also at the meeting were the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Abiola Kosegbe and her counterpart in the Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Kamar Olowoshago.
