Lagos to improve living standard

Lagos State Government is to improve the standard of living in communities, Local Government and Community Affairs Commissioner Dr. Wale Ahmed has said.

The commissioner, who spoke at the 2020 ministerial briefing to mark the first year anniversary of the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration, at Alausa, Ikeja, said that the government was determined to enhance Lagosians’ economic capabilities.

He said in fulfilment of the current administration’s promise of improving standard of living of residents, his ministry would, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, ensure that the responsibility of coordinating and improving the standard of living is achieved.

Ahmed said this is in line with the governance pillar of the T.H.E.M.E.S agenda of the Sanwo-Olu administration.

On its effort in improving synergy between the state and local governments, the commissioner said the ministry facilitates monthly progressive review meetings, which have ushered in coordinated development initiatives at both levels of governance.

He said that his ministry had embarked on sensitisation and advocacy programme for agric personnel and farmers in 13 local governments on the need to curb micronutrients malnutrition through the development of bio-fortified foods, crops and fish production.

“We have begun enforcement of compliance with rules and regulations of trading at markets.”

which include proper sewage system, potable water, adequate security, as traders are not allowed to sleep in the market, enforcement of adherence to 6pm closing time as well as the state government’s zero tolerance for street trading,” Ahmed said.
