Liverpool have got off to a good start so far this season. Two games, five goals and none conceded.
But next up is Chelsea this evening, a marked step up in quality for Jürgen Klopp’s men.
The European champions have looked impressive in the opening rounds of the season, and brushed Arsenal aside with ease at The Emirates in their last outing. The returning Romelu Lukaku was impressive, scoring within the opening 15 minutes of his second stint with Chelsea.
Lukaku has now morphed into a devastating centre forward, amongst the very finest in the world, with his time under Antonio Conte at Inter smoothing out the rougher edges to his game and honing his considerable existing attributes.
With the game between the two sides looming, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher was asked about how Klopp will strategise to deal with the threat of the Belgian.
“Liverpool won’t change for Chelsea but [Virgil] Van Dijk is the one player, certainly in the Premier League, who will fancy his chances up against Lukaku,” said Carragher on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football programme.
“It’s going to be a great battle but Liverpool, I have no doubt, will be looking to push up to the halfway line.
“What we saw yesterday from Lukaku doesn’t mean he’s going to do that to every defender.

“It was bad organisation. He’s a handful, he’s a top striker and he will score lots of goals but a lot of that was caused by Arsenal.”
Lukaku will be a massive test for the Dutchman in his return back to full fitness following his serious knee injury last season.
Yet he only needs to take inspiration from Juventus pair Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci, and how they handled Lukaku during the Euro 2020 quarter final between Italy and Belgium.
The grizzled veterans took turns staying close to Lukaku and marking him tightly, but also choosing the right time to give him space, therefore denying him the ability to spin them and run into space behind, which is one of his strongest attributes, and what he did time and again in his two years in Serie A.
Despite scoring a penalty in the game, Chiellini and Bonucci kept Lukaku very quiet, notwithstanding the 28-year-old’s obvious advantage in terms of speed and physicality.
Meanwhile, At some point on Saturday evening, Mohamed Salah’s name will ring out around Anfield, loud and proud.
And why wouldn’t it? Liverpool fans adore their Egyptian King, the relentless, goalscoring genius who has lit up their world for the past four years.
Salah needs two more goals to complete a century of Premier League strikes, and wouldn’t it be fitting if he were to get them this weekend, against the club that discarded him so swiftly during his first spell in England?
