Man arraigned for machete assault

A 21-YEAR-old mechanic, Muyideen Toyeeb, on Tuesday appeared before a Yaba Chief  Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly assaulting a man with a machete.

Toyeeb, who resides in Iwaya area of Lagos, is facing a charge of assault occasioning harm, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Modupe Olaluwoye, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Jan. 31 at 7p.m. at the University of Lagos, Akoka, Yaba.

Olaluwoye said the defendant accosted the complainant, Mr Moses Mokoluwa, and threatened to kill him if he did not surrender his phone.

She said that the complainant  called for help and the defendant struck him on the head and left hand with a machete before fleeing.

Olaluwoye said the complainant was  rushed to a hospital, while the defendant was apprehended and handed over to the police.

She said the offence contravened Section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The case was adjourned until June 23 for mention.
