A 22-year-old man, Kelvin Nnemeka, who allegedly stole a Toyota Camry car valued at N1.8 million, was at the weekend arraigned at an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
The unemployed defendant, whose address was not stated, is being tried for conspiracy and stealing.
Nnemeka, however, pleaded not guilty.
Prosecuting W/Sgt. Chekube Okeh told the court that the offences were committed last November 17 at Christ Embassy Church, Oregun, Lagos.
He said that the complainant, Mr. Ikong Bartholomew, said he parked his Toyota Camry car at the church’s car park and went for service.

The prosecutor said that on return, Bartholomew said he could not find the car again.
Okeh told the court that the car was later traced to Lafenwa in Abeokuta, Ogun State, while the defendant was arrested.
The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravened sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Chief Magistrate Mrs. A. O. Akinde granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000, with one surety in the like sum.
She adjourned the case till February 13.
